Cosmos, Cosmos bipinnatus, add a giant shout of color into the summer garden, are one of the absolute easiest flowers to grow, and bloom all summer. The color of these Xsenia Cosmos will blow your mind. It's hard to capture in a picture, so hear me out: they have an opalescent quality, and seem to color-shift between a hot-magenta, a deep burgandy, and a rosey-purple. As the flowers age, an apricot hue layers in to the bloom also. Those big yellow centers are just icing on the cake.
Planting conditions: Not too picky, tolerant of a variety of soil types, and happiest in full sun.
Care: Once they are happy and established in your garden, they are drought-tolerant, but will bloom more with more water.
Blooms: All summer. Deadhead the blooms regularly (meaning cut the flowers for bouquets, or if the flowers die on the plant cut them off) to encourage more blooms.
Self-seeding annual: Will not survive frost, but they self-seed so may naturally come back the following year in your garden.
Zones: 2-11. Can be grown in a container.
Ships: as 3 plants in 3" diameter pots, in the Spring.
