Frittilaria Meleagris is also called Snakes Head because of the snake-like pattern on the petals. The colors range from a deep burgundy to a dark pink, set off by a few white blooms. The dark palette and downward facing blooms are a moody accent to the cheerful Spring blooms we typically see in April and May.

Frittilaria grow from bulbs, and will spread, or 'naturalize,' if they're happy.

When to plant: Plant in the Fall for Spring blooms.

Planting conditions: Frittilaria requires partial shade, and plenty of moisture while it is growing. It will tolerate close to full shade, and damp environments.

Care: Water after planting then wait for Spring display, not picky about soil. Water regularly once it begins to grow in the Spring.

Blooms: For a few weeks in early Spring.

Hardiness: Perennial in zones 4-8

Ships: October

Includes: 20 bulbs

Ships as bulbs, in October

Growth habit: Frittilaria grow upright, and reaches about 9" tall.

Planting specifics: Plant 2-3" apart, 3-4" deep. Plant with the pointy part of the bulb pointing up.
