Peonies are a staple in the garden, exploding into bloom for a week or two, and then remaining for the rest of the season as a full bushy green accent. They are very long lived, and while they are easy to grow they do require a bit of patience, sometimes taking two or even three years to bloom, but then growing stronger and more prolific with every passing year.
The Green Halo Peony is incredible, with unusual chartreuse fringed outer petals, accented by a ruffled creamy double-ball shaped center. The huge 8" blooms with a delicate fragrance are absolute showstoppers.
The petals of Peony flowers are edible, and make a lovely garnish for sweets and drinks.
Planting conditions: Ideally peonies would like to be protected from strong winds, and given a bit of afternoon shade.
Care: Regular water and good soil will encourage bigger and more numerous blooms. However, it is drought tolerant once established. If you have cold winters, mulch the roots in the Winter. This variety will do best with staking to support the large blooms.
Sun: Full-sun to part shade. Prefers afternoon shade, especially in warmer climates.
Blooms: Peonies bloom for a couple of glorious weeks in the late Spring. Among peonies, this is an early-mid blooming variety.
Perennial: Very long lived, known to thrive for up to 100 years! Comes back each year in zones 2-8.
