China Asters, Callistephus chinensis, are annual plants that produce armloads of large flashy blooms from mid-Summer - frost. They make great cut flowers for bouquets with a long vase life and strong stems.
The Moonstone China Aster is an ephemeral silvery lilac color that is so sophisticated. We love the dusty bluish tone combined with the structured shape of these flowers, it's like a 90's prom dress.
Care: Once they are happy and established in your garden, they are drought-tolerant, but will bloom more with more water. Deer resistant.
Blooms: Mid-Late Summer through first frost. Deadhead the blooms regularly (meaning cut the flowers for bouquets, or if the flowers die on the plant cut them off) to encourage more blooms.
Self-seeding annual: Asters will die in the winter but may self-seed and come back in your garden naturally.
Zone: 2-11 but does best in zone 8 or cooler as it doesn't like too much heat. Can be grown in a container. Can be grown in containers.
