Sea Oats are the most shade tolerant of the ornamental grasses, and are so dang easy to grow. The large seed pods catch the sun enchantingly, and turn from green to bronze after the first frost. The green leaves of the grass also deepen to a copper color after frost. In the winter this grass will die back, but will return the following Spring.
Planting conditions: Prefers well drained soil but is tolerant of both wet and drought-like conditions.
Sun: Part to almost-full shade, one of the rare decorative grasses that prefers shade.
Blooms: Blooms in late Summer/Fall
Perennial in zones 5-8, can be grown as an annual outside of those growing zones.
Zone: 2-11. Deer Resistant. Non-toxic. Good addition to cut flower arrangements.
