Xeranthemum, also called Everlasting, is an unexpected daisy-type flower, but purple all over. Pretty silvery flower heads opening into riotous little bursts of bloom in a true purple that can be dried for offseason color.
Planting conditions: Not too picky, tolerant of a variety of soil types, and happiest in full sun.
Care: Once they are happy and established in your garden, they are drought-tolerant, but will bloom more with more water.
Blooms: All Summer. Deadhead the blooms regularly (meaning cut the flowers for bouquets, or if the flowers die on the plant cut them off) to encourage more blooms.
Self-seeding annual: Annuals, meaning they die over the winter, but they self-seed so they will naturally come back the following year in your garden.
Zone: 2-12. Can be grown in containers. Excellent cut and dried flowers. Non-toxic.
Ships: as 3 plants in 2" diameter pots, in the Spring.
Growth habit: Tall and branching plant, with one bloom per stalk. Space about 9" apart.
Size when mature: 2-3'
Growing specifics: Plant outside after your last frost.
