Godetia, Clarkia amoena, are sometimes called Satin Flower, because the soft texture of the petals make the flowers gleam like silk. The stalks are laden with blooms in the late Spring - early Summer, just when your garden needs an extra boost between the Spring and Summer blooms, and will continue to bloom through mid-Summer. Godetia is rarely found for sale in garden centers, but it is very easy to grow and comes in incredible colors.
Planting conditions: Not too picky, tolerant of a variety of soil types, but doesn't like extreme heat. If you have hot summers plant in part shade.
Care: Once they are happy and established in your garden, they are drought-tolerant, but will bloom more with more water.
Blooms: All summer. Deadhead the blooms regularly (meaning cut the flowers for bouquets, or if the flowers die on the plant cut them off) to encourage more blooms.
Annual: Godetia are annuals, meaning they die over the winter, but they self-seed so they will naturally come back the following year in your garden.
Ships: as 3 plants in 3" diameter pots, in the Spring.
