Oriental Poppies, or Papaver, offer a stunning flush of color with large 6" blooms with tissue-paper-like petals that flounce in the wind. They come in a variety of stunning colors that go beyond the common bright orange and red options. The blooms last for only a couple of weeks, and you can either dead head the spent blooms, or leave them to develop into seed pods, which can have a nice ornamental effect as well. Best planted in groups of three or more.
The Bolero Papaver is a gorgeous deep rose pink color, and the outside of the petals are brushed with a dark plum. The color compliments the purple of the Patty's Plum Papaver when planted together.
Planting conditions: Oriental Poppies like sun, although part shade is ok. Once established, they require no care and will come back with an ever-larger display of blooms each Spring.
Care: A bit of extra water when they start to set buds will encourage more and larger blooms.
Sun: Full-sun to part shade.
Blooms: Papaver bloom for a couple of glorious weeks in the late Spring.
Perennial - comes back each year. Can be grown in containers. Toxic, take care that pets and kids do not ingest. Deer Resistant.
Zone 3-9
Large 3-5 eye bare root plant ships in the Spring, at the correct time for planting outside in your zone.
