Description

The Pink Hawaiian Coral Peony is little bit magical. It opens as vibrant pink coral color, and as the bloom ages it turns salmon peach, and then further softens into a cream color. At times, all three colors are on the same bloom, and often the bush will be a mix of the three shades. It's an incredible sight. The large double blooms are 6" diameter, and have a lush fragrance.

The petals of Peony flowers are edible, and make a lovely garnish for sweets and drinks.

How to Plant

Soak your Peony root in room temperature water for about 2-4 hours to re-hydrate it before planting. Now - this is important - you have to plant it at the correct depth or it will not flower. The eyes should be covered by ½” - 2” of soil. Now give your plant a good wish, a few solid pats to compress the soil around it, and a long drink of water.

Where to Plant

Find a place with good well-draining soil that gets a decent amount of sun, some afternoon shade, and protection from the wind. Space plants about 24" apart.

When to Plant

Plant within a day or two of receiving your root, Fall planted peonies will set roots over the Winter and bloom in the Spring (although it can take a year or two to get reliable blooms).

When to Expect Blooms

For a couple of glorious weeks in the early Summer. Among Peonies, this is an early blooming variety.

Care Instructions

Water regularly until they get established, and then give them extra water when they are setting buds. And ask us any questions along the way.

Extra Credit

If you have cold winters, mulch the roots in the Winter. If you have hot Summers, give it some afternoon shade. This variety requires staking to support the large blooms.
