The Barbiecore Peony Bundle
Pink all over the place and admit it, you love it. Emerald green foliage topped with a beautiful trifecta of light mauve, classic pink, and summery coral double and semi-double blooms on strong stems with a beautiful fragrance. Includes three large 3-5 eye bare roots, 1 each of Itoh Pastel Splendour, Coral Sunset, and Etched Salmon.
Peonies explode into bloom for a week or two in early summer, and then serve as a full bushy green accent plant in the garden. While easy to grow, they do require patience, sometimes taking two or even three years to bloom. They grow stronger and more prolific with every passing year, and live up to 100 years.

Growing Info
Soak your Peony root in room temperature water for about 2-4 hours to rehydrate it before planting. Dig a whole about twice the size of the root, (or choose a pot about 3 times the size of the root), then fill the hole/pot with dirt so that you place the roots on soft soil, at a depth just below the surface of the ground or rim of the pot. Fill in the hole around the peony with the remaining soil, tucking in the roots gently, so that the top of your plant (the stem and eyes) is buried *just* below the surface. Now - this is important - you have to plant it at the correct depth or it will not flower. Now give your roots a few solid pats to compress the soil around it, a long drink of water, and stick your Plantgem marker on the spot so you’ll remember where your Peony lives now
Find a place with good well-draining soil that gets a decent amount of sun, some afternoon shade, and protection from the wind. Space plants about 24" apart
Bare root peonies can be planted in spring or fall. The plants are not frost tender, so they can be planted 2 to 3 weeks before your frost free date in the spring or after your first frost in the fall. Plant within a day or two of receiving your root
For a couple of glorious weeks in the early summer. (Although it can take a year or two to get reliable blooms). Some varieties bloom earlier than others, so don’t be alarmed if your peonies don’t bloom all at once
Water regularly until they get established, and then give them extra water when they are setting buds. Cut the foliage and stems down to the ground when it wilts with the onset of frost
If you have cold winters, mulch the roots in the winter. If you have hot summers, give it some afternoon shade. Provide support for the large blooms, if needed. The petals of Peony flowers are edible, and make a lovely garnish for sweets and drinks |
