Anemone are one of our favorite plants to grow, and add an unexpected element to the Spring garden. Their enchanting colors, graceful shape, and modern silhouette. Each corm produces up to 20 flowers, so they also make a big impact.
Bordeaux Anemone have a luscious velvety burgundy color, offset with a purple flush in the middle, and then a black center. It's moody and playful all at once - kind of like a teenager, but less maddening.
Anemone grow from corms, which are like little bulbs.
When to plant: In zones 6 and warmer, plant in the Fall for Spring blooms. If you live in a zone colder than 6, with significant stretches below freezing in the Winter, you can plant the corms in the late Winter/very early Spring.
Planting conditions: Anemone grow best in good soil that is well-drained soil (they don't like 'wet feet') and in full sun or partial shade.
Care: They need regular water, and if growing as a perennial, allow the foliage to remain on the plant after blooming, to strengthen the plant for the following Spring.
Blooms: Fall planted corms bloom for about 8-10 weeks in the early Spring, and Spring-planted corms will blossom for about 6 weeks beginning in mid-Spring.
Hardiness: In mild climates (zones 6-10) Anemone will come back each year, outside of those zones treat it as an annual that needs to be re-planted each year.
Ships: Anemone corms ship in the Fall.
