Buena Mulata Pepper Plants
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called "life" and to admire this marvelous purple pepper. This pepper is Prince incarnate. It is shiny. It is radical. It is hot. (Literally: extremely spicy. Nibble at your own risk). Not only does this Princely pepper plant have purple peppers, but it has purple flowers. How many purple Prince peppers and their purple petals can you pick? Let us know.
Buena Mulata is an heirloom cayenne pepper that will grow in a wide range of temperatures and environments, but ultimately prefers it a bit tropical. (Same). Although they're most notable for when they turn purple, Buena Mulata peppers put on a rainbow of a color show, starting green, then yellow, then purple, pink, orange, and red, (which seems on brand with the Prince vibes, if you ask us).
Includes three young plants, grown in 2.5" diameter pots.

How to Plant | Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Fill a little bit of the loose dirt back into the hole and tuck your plant in so the base of the stem is even with the top of the hole. Now fill in the rest of the soil around the roots, give the soft ground around the base of your new plant friend a few solid pats to compress the soil onto the roots, and a long, gentle drink of water |
Where to Plant | Find a place that gets mostly sun, or afternoon shade in very hot regions |
When to Plant | Plant outside in the fall, once the soil has cooled down. Avoid the heat of the day when planting — plant in the early morning, late afternoon, or by the light of the moon |
When to Expect Blooms | Summer |
Care Instructions | Water regularly until they get established, and then give them extra water during dry spells |
Extra Credit | Provide support, like a trellis or a tomato cage, so the plant can vine up and the peppers can hang down |
